Unocal and Balikpapan cooperate in environmental conservation

Unocal Indonesia a unit of oil and gas giant company Unocal Corporation and Balikpapan Municipality have agreed to cooperate in environmental conservation efforts, Suara Karya reported on Thursday.
The agreement was signed by Balikpapan?s Mayor Mukmin Faisyal and Unocal Indonesia?s General Manager David Stangor in Balikpapan on Wednesday with the presence of State Minister for Environmental Affairs Nabiel Makarim.
"The cooperation is part of out community development program," Stangor said following the signing of the agreement. He said that the cooperation between Unocal and Balikpapan Municipality had actually begun several years ago but it was only formalized on Wednesday.
According to Stangor, Unocal has been involved in developing the greenbelt area in Talaga Sari village. The project has received the Kalpataru environmental award from the government. (*)
