Unocal checks villagers? health after gas leakage

Unocal Indonesia Company has since Wednesday carried out a medical checkup on villagers living near the company?s Lawelawe gas terminal in the Griimukti village of Penajam district, East Kalimantan to find out the impact of the gas leakage in the gas terminal recently, local newspaper Kaltim Post reported on Saturday.
The medical checkup was carried out as part of the agreement made between the company?s management and the investigation team, which consisted of community leaders and government officials.
In order to ensure the fairness of the medical checkups, the investigation team assigned independent medical team from local public health centers to carry out the health examination.
At least 38 people in the village were hospitalized when a gas leaked from Unocal?s Lawelawe gas terminal early, this month. (*)
