Oil and gas contractor Unocal Indonesia Company has clarified its decision over the awarding of its multi-billion rupiah fabrication service project to PT Guna Nusa Utama (GNU) following a protest from PT H & H International.

The clarification was given last Friday following a meeting between Unocal's tendering team with representatives of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (Kadin) Balikpapan branch.

In the meeting, Unocal clarified that GNU had met all the criteria set by Unocal, including the fact that GNU had fabrication services in Kalimantan as required by the contract requirements. Unocal's clarification automatically answered protests by U & U International that claimed GNU did not qualify for the project.

"This is only a misperception (between U & U International and Unocal). Everything is clear. However, on other issue, Pertamina and its production sharing contractors must set up a standard tendering procedures that are in line with Presidential Decree No. 16," Rendy S, Ismael of Kadin told journalists after the meeting.

In the meeting with Unocal's tendering team, Rendy was accompanied by Ir. Soegeng Soepriyatno, Ir. Dedi R Haroen, Drs Sitomorang and Wahyu Hartono SH. Kadin's team was led by Fachruddin S.H. Meanwhile, Unocal's team included Peni, Anton, Dony and others.

Rendy further said that standard tendering procedures must be published so that everyone could see whether certain companies qualify for certain tenders. Therefore, there would no more protests from other tender participants or clarification by Kadin over "trivial issues." (*)
