Unocal confirms interest to participate in the new tender round

US independent oil company Unocal Corp said it might consider taking part in new exploration acreages tender that the government is offering.

?We are considering to participate in the bid,? said Unocal senior official Hardjono Danutirto recently. He, however, declined to specify which blocks the company was interested in.

The government is offering 11 new exploration blocks in February this year; two are located onshore Central Sumatra, eight offshore East Java and one offshore East Kalimantan.

All of Unocal?s Indonesian oil, gas blocks are located in East Kalimantan.

Earlier, French giant TotalFinaElf had also expressed interest to participate in the bid.

Meanwhile, Anglo-American energy giant BP Plc through BP Indonesia spokesperson satya W. Yudha said it might not take part in the tender. (godang/robert)
