External manager of Unocal Indonesia Company Moedjianto said at the week that it's difficult for the oil and gas company to response to a Friday protest from the local Penajam youths demanding the company to prioritize local people in the recruitment of its non-skill workers.
Moedjianto said that the recruitment of non-skill workers was made by Unocal's subcontractor.
"We have asked the contractor to prioritize local people," he told the Kaltim Post daily.
Moedjianto added that Unocal would also recruit local people as its skilled staffs if they passed the requirements.
The local youth of the Penajam subdistrict in Pasir regency held a peaceful demonstration at the office of Unocal in Penajam demanding a change in the company's recruitment policy.
The protesters planned to take a more extreme measure if Unocal didn't response to their demand. (*)
