Unocal finds two gas fields off East Kalimantan

Unocal, one of Pertamina's production sharing contractor, has found two gas fields in Gula and Gada areas in a deep sea off East Kalimantan, Astaga.com reported on Friday.

Pertamina said in a statement that the gas reserves of the two fields are estimated to reach between 2 and 3 trillion cubic feet (tcf) but it added that more tests are needed to measure the actual deposits of the two new wells.

The Gula field is located some 35 miles to north of the Ganda gas field, while the Gada field is about 8 miles to the north of the Gula- 1 well.

The gas deposit in the Gula-1 well found at the depth of 16,182 feet (about 4,932 meters) or about 6,051 foot (1,844 meters) under the sea level, while the gas reserves at the Gada-2 was discovered at 15,223 feet (4,640 meters) or about 6,224 feet (1,897) under the sea level.

Unocal, through several subsidiaries, operate several oil and gas fields such as East Kalimantan Ganal, Sesulu, Rapak and Makassar Straits. The company has a 100 percent interest in East Kalimantan, 80 percent in Ganal and Sesuslu, 60 percent in Rapak and 50 percent in Makassar Strait. (*)
