Unocal Indonesia to drill 15 wells in 2003

Tuesday, December 10 2002 - 03:23 PM WIB

US independent oil company Unocal Corp. said on Tuesday it planned to drill 13 exploration and appraisal wells in its operated blocks in Makassar Strait between East Kalimantan and Sulawesi.

?The plan is to drill nine exploration wells and the remaining four wells as follow-up wells to previous discoveries. All but one are in deepwater,? Brian Marcotte, president of Unocal Indonesia.

Unocal had two major oil and gas dicoveries in the past few years in its East Kalimantan deep water exploration, namely Ranggas and Gendalo-Gandang.

Marcotte said Unocal would also participate in two non-operated wells in Indonesia, bringing the total to 15 wells for next year.

Unocal operates eight oil and gas blocks in East Kalimantan and is a non-operating partner for three exploration blocks, also in East Kalimantan. (alex)
