Following a highly successful exploration programme, Unocal Indonesia, a unit of US oil and gas company Unocal Corp. is in the process of preparing a front end engineering and development study for the development of the deepwater Ranggas oil field offshore Indonesia, Hart's European offshore petroleum newsletter reported Wednesday.
The latest discovery, made in the Ranggas-5 prospect, is the fifth successful well for the operator, with the latest well penetrated more net pay than any other well drilled by Unocal Indonesia. Ranggas-5 is in Unocal's Rapak PSC area off East Kalimantan, 2.4km north of the Ranggas-1 discovery and 1.1km south of the Ranggas-4 well which tested at 8,158 BPD oil and 6.4 MMCFD of gas from a single interval.
The report said the development of Ranggas, which has a potential of 200 Million barrel of oil equivalent (MBOE) to 650 MBOE, is likely to include a mini wellhead tension leg platform and a processing barge, a concept used in Unocal's West Seno project. (*)
