Unocal to focus on human resource development in its community program

Oil and gas contractor PT Unocal Indonesia has started to change its community development program by focusing on development of the skills and knowledge of the local people rather than just focusing on providing donations.

"We think that donating this is no longer a wise thing to do. It's better to give the fishing gear rather just giving the fish," said Unocal production manager Eddy Suryo Handono during the opening ceremony of a training program on for local people.

He said that the change of strategy was part of the company's responsibility to the local people once the company leave the area because the resources had been depleted.(*)
