Unocal to terminate West Alliance drilling contract

Norwegian offshore drilling contractor Smedvig asa said Tuesday that Unocal Indonesia would exercise their right to terminate the contract for the semi-tender West Alliance drilling rig, effective from mid December 2004.
The termination was due to postponement of tension leg platform (TLP) B of the West Seno project offshore East Makassar, Smedvig said.
West Alliance is contracted for a 3-year period starting January last year for production drilling on the West Seno field offshore, currently operating on the TLP A platform. The contract also included drilling from the TLP B platform.
Unocal-operated West Seno is the first Indonesian deep-water oil project. (robert)
