Unpaid financial obligations of mining companies to the state as per end of February this year stood at Rp 5.07 trillion, down from Rp 6.65 trillion at the end of last year.

Jonson Pakpahan, Director for Coal and Mineral Revenue at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, said that the unpaid financial obligations (non-tax revenue for the state including royalty) were mostly owed by miners holding the IUP mining business license.

He said that the IUP miners still owe a total of Rp 3.95 trillion, PKP2B coal miners Rp 1.10 trillion, and KK mineral mining firms Rp 20.64 billion.

He said that the government will continue to push miners to settle their overdue financial obligations, warning that miners which continue to fail in properly paying their financial obligations to the state will be handed over to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). He added that miners with default status risk their mining licenses be revoked. (*)
