The government has appointed Endriatono Sutarto, former Indonesian military (TNI) chief, as chief commissioner of state owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said the new chief commissioner, along with other new commissioners of the company, would be installed in a ceremony scheduled for Friday

Endriartono, an active army general, is replacing Martiono Hadianto, who used to lead the firm as president director.

"(Good) managerial skill is needed to lead Pertamina," Purnomo said, adding that Endriartono has proved his managerial skill.

Endriartono led the TNI from 2002 through 2004 during the administration of President Megawati Soekarnoputri. He reached the mandatory retirement age of 55 in 2002 but Megawati issued that year a decree to extend his military service until 2007.

Other new commissioners of Pertamina are Maizar Rahman, current OPEC governor in Indonesia and former head of Lemigas oil and gas research center, and Irnanda, the Assistant Deputy State Minister of State-owned Enterprises for strategic enterprises. Two other commissioners of the company are Umar Said, former secretary general of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Muh. Abduh, former Pertamina senior official. (Godang)
