The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) declared Wednesday Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik as suspect in alleged extortion cases occuring in 2011-2012.

This was said by KPK Deputy Chairman Zulkarnain at a press conference.

Another KPK Deputy Chairman Bambang Widjojanto said that the extortions were made to raise funds for the minister's operational expenses as the allocated budget was deemed not enough.

One of the methods is by instructing subordinates to collect kickbacks from suppliers of goods and services at the ministry.

Meanwhile, KPK spokesman Johan Budi was quoted by Elshinta Radio that KPK will ask the Immigration Office to apply travel ban against Jero. (*)
