Upstream oil, gas authority BPMIGAS said on Monday that BP-operated Tangguh LNG project is unaffected by a quake that hit West Papua capital city of Manokwari Sunday morning.

?The project is located some 200-km from Manokwari,? BPMIGAS deputy Chairman Eddy Purwanto said.

Meanwhile, PetroChina said its operations in the area were also unaffected by the earthquake.

?We are safe,? PetroChina?s spokesperson Marrieke Pulonggono told Petromindo.com.

PetroChina has two operations in the so-called Bird?s Head area, that is the Salawati Basin PSC and the Salawati Island JOB-PSC.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said a magnitude 7.6 quake occurred some 150 km northeast of Manokwari in the Indonesian half of the island of New Guinea, at a depth of 35 km.

Reports said the earth quake killed four and left hundreds of buildings collapsed.

"There is no significant impact, only a crack in the office building. The work continues," BP spokesman Nico Kanter said as quoted by Reuters. (godang)
