Saturday, March 2 2002 - 04:30 AM WIB
JAKARTA 2 March 2002 - On Friday, 1st March 2002 at around 15.30 hrs (local time) an uncontrolled eruption of reservoir effluent (gas and condensate) occurred during the drilling operation being performed by the rig Maera at the Tunu E5 well location on the Tunu field in the Mahakam Delta.
It is confirmed that no person was injured during the incident and all personnel on the Maera drilling barge have been evacuated to safety.
Operations are currently underway to regain full control of the well.
A team of specialists is scheduled to arrive in Balikpapan on Sunday, 3 March 2002.
All required equipment, including fire fighting spread and intervention equipment, have been mobilized.
Anti-pollution means have also been mobilized to ensure minimal impact on the environment.
Although only one well is involved in the incident, as a security measure, the production from a further 7 wells in the surrounding area has been shut-in.
However, production from the Tunu field remains unaffected and continues from the wells located outside the security zone, with a loss of production estimated at 130 MCFD or 5% of the total production from the Mahakam Block of 2.4 BCFD.
The commitment to supply gas to the Bontang LNG plant will continue to be assured by the existing production capacity from the Mahakam Block.
The Mahakam Block is operated by TotalFinaElf Exploration & Production Indonesie (50%) in partnership with Inpex (50%). (*)
