US and French team arrived in Tunu to help manage the fire (Photo)

Indonesian unit of French oil giant TotalFinaElf said on Monday that a team from Houston-based Wild Well Control Inc had arrived in Tunu gas field, East Kalimantan to help the TotalFinaElf to determine the cause of the bow out, to manage the fire and make a plan to snuff it out.

?Another team from French will arrive this week along with required equipments,? said Ananda Idris, TotalFinaElf E&P Indonesie?s spokesperson.

A blowout which occurred on Friday at TotalFinaElf development well has forced the shutdown of seven wells producing 130 million cubic feet of gas a day for liquefied gas plant at Bontang.

The company has evacuated 170 workers from the site, including five expatriate workers and well-control specialists will begin to try to cap the well on Sunday.

The Tunu field is part of the Mahakam block, which TotalFinaElf operates with Japan-based Inpex Corp., a unit of Japan National Oil Corp. (godang)
