US firm eyeing S. Sumatra mine-mouth power plant project

US power firm AES Corp. said on Wednesday it planned to build a 1,200-MW mine-mouth power plant in Musi Rawas regency, South Sumatra.

The company?s director for Asia and Middle East Surender Singh said that the company would cooperate with a number of local companies to build the plant. He did not give the name of the local partners.

He did not give the number of investment needed to develop the power plant.

Director General of Electricity Jack Purwono said that the plan to build the mine-mouth power plant is currently being studied with state electricity firm PLN.

AES is a global power company with 2005 revenues of $11.1 billion. The company has operations in 26 countries on five continents with 44,000 MW capacities. (godang)
