US firms signs electricity cooperation agreements

US energy-related firms signed on Friday a number of cooperation agreements in electricity-related projects in Indonesia including with state-owned electricity firm PT PLN.
The signing of the agreements were witnessed by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan and Brian McFeeters, who heads a visiting US business delegation, according to a ministry statement.
The statement said that Halliburton signed an agreement with PT PLN for increased cooperation in the development geothermal working areas owned by the latter. The two companies previously has signed a US$34 million contract for the drilling of geothermal well in Tulehu, Ambon, North Maluku.
?This is proof that investment in the renewables sector is still attractive to investors,? Jonan said in the statement.
Other agreements signed on Friday are as follows.
Cooperation between PLN and PowerPhase for the installation of TurboPhase booster system in gas-fired power plants. The technology is claimed to be able to reduce fuel oil consumption by the power plants, reduce emission and increase the electricity output.
Cooperation between PLN and Applied Materials for the installation of Fault Current Limiter that can reduce fault current levels in the West Java electricity system. Applied Materials plans to carry out feasibility study for the installation of the technology in a 500kV substation.
Cooperation between Jababeka Infrastructure and Greenbelt Resources for the development of waste to energy facility at the Jababeka industrial estate in West Java, which will be called JababECO.
And finally, cooperation between the Samarinda Mayoralty Administration in East Kalimantan with NextGen for low carbon waste-to-electricity project.
