UT, Wika eyeing Sumatra mine-mouth power plants

The consortium of heavy equipment distributor and miner PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) and state engineering firm PT Wijaya Karya Tbk (Wika), both listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange, is participating in the tender to build mine-mouth power plants in Sumatra under independent power producers (IPP) scheme.
UT corporate secretary Sara Loebis told Petromindo.Com on Thursday that aside from UT and Wika, the consortium includes several other firms, including a coal mine owner, which she did not identify.
State owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is tendering a Riau 2x300 MW power plant and 2x300 MW South Sumatra-6 power plant projects, she said without giving further details. The consortium has participated in the recent pre-qualification process of the tender.
In earlier PLN?s announcement, the winner will be given right to operate the plant for 25 years under build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) scheme. (denny)
