Vale Indonesia unveils coal transport tender

IDX-listed integrated nickel mining company PT Vale Indonesia Tbk invited Indonesian shipping firms to participate in registration of interest for coal transport services tender.

Vale said in a tender document seen Monday that the scope of work includes the transport of coal from loading point/s in East, Central and or South Kalimantan to unloading port owned by the company located in Balantang, Malili, South Sulawesi.

The coal transport volume will be about 40,000 tons per month, it added. The winning bidder, which will have to provide all necessary requirements including barges and tug boats to carry out the work, will have a contract for a six-month trial, and will be extended for a duration of three years if it shows satisfying performance.

Interested bidders must have at least five years of experience, three sets of barges (each with capacity of 4,000 tons), and minimal two bulk carrier vessels with minimum capacity of 25,000-35,000 DWT, or one bulk carrier vessel with minimum capacity of 50,000 DWT. The vessels must not be more than 10 years old, Vale said.

The bidders must also have experience in the transport of at least 550,000 tons of coal per year, safety management system, and the required resources.
