Vale reports lower first quarter production

IDX-listed integrated nickel mining firm PT Vale Indonesia Tbk announced Thursday that in the first quarter of 2016 it produced 16,894 metric tons of nickel in matte, more than 3 percent lower compared to the output in the same period of last year.

?Production in the first quarter of this year was lower than production in 4Q15 as a result of planned maintenance activities which are crucial to ensure our operation functions efficiently. We remain optimistic of meeting our 2016 full year production target of around 80,000 tons,? said Nico Kanter, CEO and President Director of PT Vale in a statement, commenting on the quarterly result.

First quarter 2016 production volume was about 24 percent lower than the production volume realized in the fourt quarter of last year, the statement added.
