Brazil-based Vale SA, the parent of IDX-listed integrated nickel mining company PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, said that production of nickel in matte from its Indonesian operations at Sorowako, South Sulawesi, in the second quarter of this year (2Q15) totaled 19,300 tons, slightly higher than 19,200 tons in the corresponding period of last year (2Q14).
The company said in a statement Thursday that the second quarter production was 10.2 percent higher than output in the first quarter (1Q15).
?In the first half of 2015, PT. Vale Indonesia (PTVI) underwent major maintenance work on furnaces #1, #2 and #4, all of which are now in full operation,? the statement said.
The production of finished nickel from matte sourced from PTVI reached 13,400 tons, 5.5 percent and 36.6 percent lower than in 1Q15 and 2Q14, respectively.
?The unscheduled maintenance on furnace #4 in 1Q15 and the planned maintenance on furnaces #1 and #2 in 2Q15 temporarily disrupted flows of feed to the downstream refining facilities early in the quarter. These flows have since returned to normal and we expect a strong performance for the second half of the year,? Vale explained.
