French  seamless steel tubes and premium tubular solutions Vallourec said it has secured a contract from BP Berau Ltd. to supply pipes and services for carbon capture and storage (CCS) injection wells at the Tangguh project in West Papua.

The contract covers the supply of corrosion resistant alloy pipes and VAM connections for what is described as the first offshore CCS injection wells in the region.

Vallourec will also provide tubular management and field services, including technical support from installation through to operations, the company said in a statement.

Senior Vice President Bertrand de Rotalier said the contract reflects the company’s capability in delivering solutions for complex offshore CCS developments.

“We are proud to support BP Berau Ltd. in its offshore Tangguh UCC project,” Bertrand said, adding that the project highlights demand for advanced tubular solutions in energy transition projects.

The Tangguh development includes plans for carbon capture and storage to reduce emissions from gas production, as part of broader efforts to integrate lower-carbon technologies into upstream operations.

The CCS development is part of the broader Tangguh expansion, one of the largest gas projects in the country, operated by BP through BP Berau. The project includes multiple LNG trains and supplies both domestic and export markets.

The project forms part of efforts to extend the life of the Tangguh field while lowering its carbon intensity, supporting long-term gas supply and energy transition objectives.
