Vessel carrying Kideco?s coal seized by Navy

Indonesian Navy on Tuesday seized a panamax vessel MV Coastal Pride that carried coal to in Karimata waters off Kalimantan Island.

The vessel, which was originally bound to India, was carrying some 70,000 tonnes of coal, 42,000 tonnes of which was originated from East Kalimantan coal miner PT. Kideco Jaya Agung.

The vessel was seized after being unable to show proper documents from the coal it carried. The vessel is now docked at Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta.

A Petromindo.Com source that was familiar with the case said that the vessel has also carried 26,000 tonnes of coal that belonged to a South Kalimantan firm called Asia Pacific Mining. ?The 26,000 tonnes coal are suspected to be coming from illegal sources as it was not protected with proper documents,? said the source. The source said Kideco?s coal, which was scheduled to reach India next week has become stranded, adding that Kideco?s coal is protected with legal documents.

Separately, Bambang Hartoyo, a senior official from the ministry of energy and mineral resources confirmed that the vessel was carrying coal from Kideco and Asia Pacific Mining. (godang)
