Vessel carrying Pertamina?s LPG catches fire after collision offshore East Java

The tanker collided with the container ship, which was inbound to the province?s capital of Surabaya, shortly after departure with reports of bad weather leading to the accident. The collision left a large breach in the port side of the tanker, which caught fire and had to be extinguished by local port authority tugs sent to the scene.
The collision happened 0.30 am and the fire was extinguished at 4.15 p.m., according to the police.
According to newmaritime.com, the container ship Leo Perdana (IMO: 9363390) has overall length of 199.00 m, moulded beam of 32.00 m and maximum draft of 9.00 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 33,423 DWT and the gross tonnage is 27,104 GRT. The ship was built in 2007 by Naikai Shipbuilding Setoda Factory in Japan and operated by Japanese shipping company Tokei Kaiun. During the accident Leo Perdana was en route to Surabaya.
The LPG tanker Navigator Aries (IMO: 9403762) has overall length of 160.00 m, moulded beam of 26.00 m and maximum draft of 8.00 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 23,333 DWT and the gross tonnage is 18,311 GRT. The cargo ship was built in 2008 by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan, South Korea. The LPG tanker Navigator Aries is operating under the flag of Liberia and managed by UK company Navigator Gas. (*)
