Regent of the Kutai Kertanegara regency Syaukani HR called on the oil and gas firm Vico Indonesia to help develop local business in the Muara Badak area by inviting them in developing its oil and gas project, the local Jaya Post daily reported.

Speaking in the inauguration of the Muara Badak businessmen association (APMB), Syaukani also asked Vico to be transparent in tendering its oil and gas project.

APMB chairman Asman Gilir lambasted Vico for lack of transparency in the tender process. He also said that the tender had always been participated only by contractors outside the Muara Badak area. He demanded Vico to be transparent in conducting the tender process.

Asman said that if the contractors of the Muara Badak area did not meet Vico's standard, he expected the company to tell the truth. But he also asked the contractors from outside the Muara Badak area to allow the local firms to be come sub contractors.

Asman warned that the presidential decree issued in 1994 and 2000 stipulated that the local businesses must be given the opportunity to become the partner or sub contractor of outside companies working in the particular area. (*)
