Gas producer Vico Indonesia still could not agree on the value of community development program demanded by East Kalimantan villagers in compensation for environmental pollution caused by the company?s projects, local daily Kaltim Post reported Wednesday.

?Their demand is still too high,? Vico?s official Wijaya S said after attending a meeting with farmers from South Prangat village which is located in East Kalimantan?s Kutai Kartanegara regency.

Vico had offered the villagers revolving funds for the development of 26 hectares of ginger and banana plantations, but they wanted more. The two parties had discussed the same issue since March.

Kutai Kartanegara regency officials attending Tuesday?s meeting hoped that Vico would meet the villagers? demand.

Vico is equally owned by BP Plc and Eni Lasmo. (*)
