Vico to pay land compensation Monday

Friday, September 29 2000 - 04:00 AM WIB

Oil and gas company PT Vico Indonesia will pay compensation for the damage caused by the development of its M-18 oil refinery project on the land property of the Beringin Agung villagers in the Samboja sub district, East Kalimantan.

The local Jaya Pos daily reported that Vico reached the agreement during a meeting with the villagers and local authority Thursday.

The agreement followed earlier road blockade made by the villagers to demand for the compensation.

The paper quoted the villagers as saying that they would resume the road blockade if Vico failed to realize its promise on Monday.

Meanwhile, Vico spokesman Surya Safari said that the company had no intention to delay the payment of the compensation. (*)
