Residents in the Bonai village in the district of Kunto Darussalam in Rokanhulu, Riau have accused PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia of breaking its promise to asphalt the 16.5 kilometer-road used by the oil giant to carry out its operation in the nearby oil rigs.
Riau Post reported on Tuesday that the company had for several times promised to asphalt the dusting road which had caused a major pollution due to the residential area, but the promise was only a promise.
The local villagers had for several times staged demonstrations at the local legislative council (DPRD) asking Caltex to meet it promise, but the company still refused to do so on the ground that the road was also used by other companies.
The head of the local district, Kunto Darussalam Daswanto, said that the people? demand was quite rational because it was also for the interest of Caltex, which operates several oilrigs in the area. (*)
