Villagers attack Adaro to demand work

Thursday, March 23 2000 - 04:00 AM WIB

Some 25 villagers staged early this week a demonstration at the headquarters of coal mining firm PT Adaro Indonesia in Dahai, South Kalimantan, to demand for work.

The villagers said that they staged the demonstration because they've been tired of receiving a "no vacancy" answer from Adaro for their job application.

The protesters said that they're ready to either work at Adaro or the company's contractors.

Three of the protesters were allowed to meet Adaro's official, but the company said that they have no position for the moment. But the Adaro official promised to talk to its contractor for possible employment. (*)
