Hundreds of villagers on Monday blockaded road used by East Kalimantan coal miner PT. Anugerah Bara Kaltim (ABK), accusing the company?s operations caused flooding in nearby villages.
ABK General Manager Martusin Yapriadi told Petromindo.Com on Tuesday that the villagers, who demanded compensation, were currently negotiating with the company. The villagers threatened to stop the company?s activities if it did not comply to their demands.
Priadi said that the blockade thus far did not cause production stoppage as there the villagers apparently left some of the access road open.
ABK produced 3.5 million tonnes of coal last year. (riyanto)
