Villagers in Muara Babuat village in Permata Intan district, Nort Barito regency, Central Kalimantan, demand gold mining firm PT Indo Muro Kencana (IMK) to pay some Rp 74.9 million in compensation, the local Banjarmasin Post daily said Thursday.

The paper said that the villagers demanded the compensation because IMK, which is owned by Australia?s Aurora Gold, had damaged their plants when the company implemented exploration activity in its expanded mining site.

The paper quoted North Barito Regent Badaruddin as saying that his office planned to facilitate a meeting on September 5-6 between the villagers and IMK to settle the compensation demand.(*)
