A group of East Kalimantan villagers have invited the Samarinda lawmakers to witness the blocking of coal mining activity of PT Lanna Harita Indonesia (LHI) in the Sungai Siring area, the local Kaltim Post daily reported.

The paper said that the invitation letter was sent to the legislative council on Thursday.

The villagers planned to stop the coal mining activity of LHI in the Sungai Siring area because the company have not paid compensation for their land.

The villagers claim ownership over some 60 ha plot of land included in LHI?s mining sites in Sungai Siring.

Negotiation to decide the amount of compensation has started some months ago, but until now the two sides had not reached agreement over the price.

LHI is 55 percent controlled by Thailand?s Lanna Lignite.(*)
