People from three villages in Tabalong regency in South Kalimantan province held a protest at the local House of Representatives at the weekend over the plans by coal mining firm PT Adaro Indonesia to acquire their land.

The Central Kalimantan Kapos daily reported that the villagers protested the low price set by Adaro over their land.

Tekwande, one of the protesters, said that the price for their land was set at only between Rp 30-Rp 250 per square meter.

Tekwande said that Adaro officials had claimed that the price was based on the regent decree, but the officials failed show up the decree when the villagers demanded to see the decree.

The paper said that the villagers also complained about the conduct of the Adaro officials in measuring their land without prior permit from the landowners. (*)
