Villagers stage brutal protest at Exspan

Around 50 angry villagers staged on Thursday a brutal protest at the office of oil and gas firm PT Exspan in the Kaji village in Lais sub district, Muba regency in South Sumatra, the local Sriwijaya Post daily reported.

The paper said that one truck was set on fire, and one car was heavily destroyed by the villagers.

The paper said that the villagers turned violent after Exspan failed to provide satisfying answer to their demand to be employed at the company.

Around 37 of the demonstrators were detained by the local police for questioning.

The police claimed that they have identified the provocateur of the violent demonstration.(*)
