The Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) is seeking to acquire coal mines in Indonesia to ensure coal supplies the power plants in the country.

?Currently, we are looking for coal mines to be acquired to meet the long-term needs for coal of power plants in Vietnam. We hope to have acquired a coal mine in Indonesia by 2013,? Nguyen Tien Chinh, Vinacomi?s GM for science, technology and development, told Petromindo.com on Wednesday.

Currently, the firm is negotiating with Berau Coal for a total of 3 million tons of coal supplies per year to Vinacomin starting 2013, he said.

The total volume will meet the need of 1,200 MW power plants that will start operation in 2013, he said. (Denny)
