Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin), the largest coal producer in Vietnam, expects to start importing coal from Indonesia in 2015 to fuel the now-developing power plant projects in the country.
Nguyen Tien Nho, General Manager International Cooperation Division Vinacomin, told CoalAsia on the sideline of Mines and Money Australia 2012 Conference at Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre that the company was currently negotiating the coal sales contract with Indonesian coal producers.
"If the power plant project is on the schedule, we will need at least between 2 million tons and 5 million tons of coal from Indonesia," Nguyen said without elaborating on the required CV of coal.
"We are still negotiating, and seeking partner to supply us," he said.
Vinacomin itself produces about 45 million tons of coal per year.
