W. Kalimantan?s Khatulistiwa system enjoys electricity surplus

The Khatulistiwa electricity system which serves several regions in West Kalimantan Province including Pontianak City, Kubu Raya, Mempawah, Singkawang, Sambas and Bengkayang regencies has enjoyed electricity surplus of around 26 MW after the 4x25 Parit Baru gas-fired mobile power plant (MPP) started operation on March 18.

PLN said in a statement obtained Wednesday that the entry of electricity supply from the MPP has increased installed capacity in the Khatulistiwa system to 326 MW, compared to peak load of 300 MW in the region.

PLN General Manager for West Kalimantan region, Bima Putrajaya said that the installed capacity in the system will further expand to 426 MW once the 2x50 MW PLTU Kalbar 1 and 2 coal-fired power plant begins operation this year.

He said that the electricity surplus will help improve investment and business climate in Pontianak, Kubu Raya, Mempawah,Singkawang, Sambas and Bengkayang.

He added that PLN plans to develop more substations to increase electricity supply reliability in the region.
