Walhi accuses Bosowa of damaging Sulawesi forests

Walhi, one of the country's major environmental advocacy agencies, has accused two subsidiaries of the South Sulawesi-Bosowa Group including PT Semen Bosowa and PT Bosowa Mining of damaging the forests in the province's Maros area, Investor Daily reported on Wednesday.

Indah Pattinaware, the executive director of Walhi office in Makassar said that Walhi's findings indicated that the destruction of the forest in Maros area was mainly caused by the operation of the two companies.

He said that mining activities conducted by the two companies did not only damage the forests but also the ecosystem in the area, about 40 kilometers from Makassar, the provincial capital of South Sulawesi. (*)
