State electricity company?s prepaid electricity service has reached many parts of eastern Indonesia including Jayawijaya regency in Papua, which is expected to become the first regency in the country which will use a 100 percent-prepaid electricity service.

PLN office in Wamena at present has provided 2,000 connections using a prepaid electricity service, while another 7,000 household customers are currently in the process of obtaining their electricity using a prepaid service.

?We hope all the customers in Wamena will have shifted to prepaid electricity service by October this year,? said PLN?s general manager for Papua Ferdinand Siahaan, adding that Wamena had been chosen as the pilot project to use 100 percent prepaid electricity service. ?If the program is successful, we hope other areas in Papua will also use 100 percent prepaid electricity service.?

PLN?s manager for Wamena area Sudharmono said he was optimistic that the target could be achieved. If the target is achieved, the Jayawijaya regency will be the first regency in the country that uses 100 percent prepaid electricity service.

Previously, Kangae district in Sikka regency, East Nusa Tenggara, was recorded by the Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI) as the first district in the country using a 100 percent prepaid electricity service.

The use of prepaid electricity service is more beneficial to customers because they could easily arrange electricity use according to their needs. In order to get the service, the customers can buy prepaid electricity cards worth between Rp 10,000 and Rp 1 million. (godang/giok)
