Wampu hydro power plant begins operation

The Wampu hydro power plant in Karo Regency, North Sumatra Province, has finally started commercial operation on November 3.

The 3x15 MW hydro power plant is developed and owned by PT Wampu Electric Power, a consortium comprising of South Korea?s Komipo and Posco, and Indonesian company PT Mega Power Mandiri (MPM). PLN signed the power purchase agreement for the project in 2011.

PT Wampu President Director Young Kyu Park mengatakan, PLTA Wampu said that the electricity output will be supplied to households in the province.

He added that total investment spent for the project was US$174 million
