Finnish power and energy equipment maker Wartsilla aims to increase sales of its gas and dual fuel engines for power plants in Indonesia with combined installed capacity of 400 MW, Kontan reported on Friday.

Last year, the company through PT Wartsilla Indonesia managed to sell gas and dual fuel engines to power plants with total capacity 280 MW.

The paper quoted Wartsilla Indonesia Manager for Business Development and Energy Solution Wiwin Suhendri as saying that the company is now focusing on market for gas engine and dual fuel engine as the market for diesel fuel engine in Indonesia has closed. He did not provide further details about the target.

In December of last year, a consortium comprising of Wartsilla and IDX-listed engineering and construction firm PT PP (Persero) Tbk signed a contract to supply two 57 MW modular power plants, totaling 114 MW to Indonesian state-owned electricity firm PT PLN.

Wartsila said the consortium will be responsible for the complete engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project, and will also operate and maintain the power plants for a 5-year period.

The power from the two plants, placed in the cities of Jayapura and Kendari, will be generated by 12 Wartsila 34DF engines (six per power plant) capable of operating on multiple fuels, including liquid fuels and natural gas. The equipment will be delivered during the first quarter of 2017 and the plants are scheduled to be operational during the first half of 2017, making this is a fast-track delivery.

Wartsila has said its installed capacity in Indonesia will exceed 3.2 GW during 2017. (*)
