The East Kalimantan water firm (PDAM) plans to file a legal suit and demand some Rp 3 billion (US$1=Rp 10,940) in compensation for the spill out of around 480 tons of ammonium nitrate into the Mahakam River, polluting the company?s main water source.
The local Kaltim Post daily quoted company lawyer Dahri Yasin as saying that the company would file the charges soon against three parties including coal mining firm PT Indominco, which imports the chemical product, the local port authority, and the loading and unloading company.
The chemical product spilled out into the water when it was being unloaded at the Samarinda port.(*)
