The Jatigede Dam is designed to be a multipurpose reservoir. It will supply water for 90,000 hectare of farm land, up to 3,500 liter/second debit of raw water, and a 2x55 MW hydro power plant. All has been made possible after Director General of Water Resources at the Public Works Ministry Moch Amron signed the agreement with President Director of PT PLN, witnessed by the Minister of Public Works Djoko Kirmanto.

The Jatigede project is scheduled for completion by 2013. It includes the development of a power intake and 150m tunnel in preparation for the construction of the hydro power plant, which is expected to be completed in 2014.

The project involves the Ministry of Public Works and PLN, from the concept of the project to the construction to the management once it is in operation. This cooperation is valid for three years and, if desired by both parties, can be extended.

The Jatigede Dam project, which is located in Sumedang, West Java, is estimated to cost Rp 3 trillion. It is a part of the Cimanuk-Cisanggarung River chain that flows through Garut, Sumedang, Majalengka, Cirebon, Indramayu, Kuningan and Brebes in Central Java. The project is located in Jatigede Kulon village, Jatigede sub-district. (romel)
