President Abdurrahman Wahid said on Sunday that the government was planning to turn the Weh Island in Sabang, Aceh Province, to become the country's oil and gas storage.

Speaking in Medan during a visit, Abdurrahman said that the Weh Island oil and gas storage was particularly aimed supplying the commodities to China and India.

He was quoted as saying by the Banda Aceh-based Serambi Indonesia daily that the Weh Island was chosen because of its strategic location amidst the international shipping lane. (*)
