West Sumatra invites investors to set up hydro power plants

The office of the state owned electricity company PLN in West Sumatra has invited private investors to set up hydro power plants in several parts of the province, in a bid to cope with the shortage of the power supply in the province, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Wednesday.
PLN’s general manager for West Sumatra, Sudirman said in Padang on Tuesday that the province had the resources for the development of hydro power plants. “Besides using our own budget, we will also cooperate with private investors to set up hydro power plants,” he added.
According to him, the local office of PLN has prepared a number of memorandums of understanding for the development of new hydro power plants with private companies. But he did not unveil the names of companies which had showed their interest to develop hydro power plants in the province.
He said a number areas in the province including Pesisir Selatan, Pasaman are quite suitable for the development of hydro power plants. (*)
