PT Well Harvest Winning (WHW), which operates an alumina smelter in Ketapang, West Kalimantan, has sold a total of 713,000 tons of smelter grade alumina (SGA) from August of last year until March of this year.

This was said recently by Hidayat Suigarto, Deputy Head of Finance and Accounting at WHW. Hidayat represents IDX-listed mining firm PT Cita Mineral Investindo Tbk in WHW, which is 25 percent owned by the company, and 75 percent by China?s Hongqiao Group.

He said that the alumina were mostly exported to China, and some to Saudi Arabia. He said that about 400,000 tons where shipped last year. He added that the company is seeking for total sales volume of 1 million tons this year, and targeting Malaysia as a new market.

WHW?s SGA smelter, which gets bauxite raw material from Cita?s mines, started operation in June of last year but has been running at lower capacity. The company hopes to reach nameplate capacity of 1 million tons per annum this year, and afterwards it would start construction of a second smelter unit with similar installed capacity as part of an overall plan to develop a combined SGA smelter with total capacity of 4 million tons per annum.
