State-owned construction company PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (IDX: WIKA) said physical progress on the Sepaku Water Treatment Plant (WTP) interconnection network in East Kalimantan has reached 86%, with completion on track for March 2026.

WIKA said on Tuesday the project includes the installation of large-capacity transmission pipelines, reservoir facilities and supporting infrastructure to strengthen water supply security for the Sepaku area and Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara (IKN).

Pipeline installation under the project has reached 96%, while construction of a 2,000-cubic-meter reservoir is 75% complete. A 100-meter bridge that forms part of the network is nearing completion at 95%, the company said.

WIKA said it has applied construction innovations, including the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM), to improve efficiency and reduce material waste. The company said the approach has lowered pipe waste from a tolerance level of 3.0% to 1.9% at the planning stage and 1.2% during construction.

The Sepaku interconnection network is designed to serve as the backbone of the regional drinking water system for Sepaku and the Nusantara capital area, providing a reliable and continuous supply of raw water while reducing reliance on local sources vulnerable to seasonal and environmental risks.

WIKA President Director Agung Budi Waskito said the project supports the government’s national strategic agenda and efforts to promote balanced development outside Java.

“The Sepaku IPA interconnection network is not merely an infrastructure project, but a foundation for water security and quality of life in the IKN area and its surroundings,” Agung said in a statement.

The project is also expected to benefit surrounding buffer areas and contribute to the development of Nusantara as a livable, sustainable and globally competitive capital city, WIKA said.
