"The winners will be announced mid-October," Pertamina's deputy director for shipping affairs Ibrahim Hasyim told Petromindo.Com.
The seven tankers include one 3,500-DWT tanker, two 6,500 DWT tankers, two 17,500 DWT tankers and two 30,000-DWT tankers.
Pertamina had recieved bidding proposals from ten local ship makers for contracts to build the 3,500-DWT tanker, eight local ship builders for contracts to build the 6,500-DWT tankers, several local and foreign ship makers for contracts to build the 17,500-DWT tankers, and three foreign ship builders for contracts to build the 30,000-DWT tankers, Ibrahim said.
Companies who sent proposals to build the 17,500-DWT tankers are Singapore-based Jurong Shipyard, South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries, Surabaya-based PT PAL, Jakarta-based Koja Bahari, a Batam-based ship builder and a Chinese-based firm.
Meanwhile, offering to construct the 30,000-DWT carriers were ship makers from South Korea, Japan and China, Ibrahim said.
He, however, did not mention the names of the ship makers who bid for the contracts to build the 3,500 and 6,500-DWT tankers.
The seven carriers are among the 12 oil carriers Pertamina has planned to procure.
Early this year, the firm signed a contract with Hyundai for the construction of two 260,000-DWT carriers. (godang)
