Indonesian coal miner PT Wira Yudha has won a coal supply contract from Pakistan-based Techno World Instrument Service, according to a recent statement issued by the Indonesian Consulate General in Karachi.

The coal supply agreement was signed by the two companies during the April 7-9 My Karachi 2017 trade expo in Karachi, Consul General Dempo Awang Yuddie said in the statement. ?According to them, maiden shipment of as much as 50,000 tons of coal will be made in the near future,? he said.

Dempo said that while Pakistan is not Indonesia?s key traditional export markets, the country offers huge potential for Indonesian coal miners as Pakistan is developing more coal-fired power plants amid limited hydro power potential. Coals are also being used as key material in cement companies in Pakistan.

Indonesia?s coal export to Pakistan in 2015 reached only around US$97 million, up slightly from $89 million in 2014. The Pakistan cement industry requires coal with gross calorific value (GCV) of 6,000 kcal/kg. But Dempo said that demand for lower GCV coal will increase in the future in line with technology development. (*)
